Last night Matt said to me, "Good job today," to which I responded, "What did I do?" He pointed out how I activated people I know around bad news impacting our community.
By now you probably know that I'm pursuing my BFA. The College of Fine Arts I'm in is part of The University of New Mexico. The day before yesterday UNM sent a quiet email about policies that are being updated and public comment being open until this Friday.
UNM's Equal Opportunity, Affirmative Action, Anti-Harassment, and Anti-Retaliation policy is being stripped of affirmative action to include only those under "protected status" vs. the expansive groups of people the policy currently protects.
It feels safe to assume, not just here in New Mexico but everywhere in the US, that "protected statuses" will be stripped federally soon enough.
As I talked about the intentions behind my work, I heard the words come out of my mouth, "While I don't go to rallies anymore, I still have an activist stance. It just looks different these days."
My natal Mars conjuncts my Sun. My Scorpio and Aries, both ruled by Mars, require me to use my art and reputation as forces for what I deeply believe in.
Mars is the warrior in you. The fighter. The activist.
What does your activist stance look like these days?
Maybe locally, out in the streets, writing letters or in your 1:1 conversations.
p.p.s. If you live outside New Mexico, keep an eye out for these types of changes in your community and demand a town hall, share with everyone you know, don't shrug it off.
